let's talk Sound Relief...

so i haven't updated here in a while.
im just lazy.
so we're going back a couple of weeks.
Saturday 14th March 2009, to be exact.

i went to Sound Relief with 2 of my best girlfriends laura and liz.
we took the train to melbourne and by the time we got there... it was absolutely pissing down!
there was thunder and lightning. we had the works.
but the show went head. everyone was just cold and wet for the day..
we saw Jet live first and then Coldplay via satellite from the sydney show. they were so good!!! everyone was clapping and cheering for them as if they were in the MCG too.. not playing in another state. :p
then gabriella cilmi came on... ugh. we left to go to the bathroom. we DID NOT want to sit through that set.

AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING. !!!
they played Crawl, Revelry, On Call and Use Somebody.
no sex on fire. Caleb said in an interview the next day that they thought it would be a little disrespectful to sing at a concert for bushfire relief... hmm.
but hey.. we got 4 incredible songs.
after Kings finished their set, we left. my friend liz got sick so we went back to the station and caught an earlier train home..
HAD SUCH A GREAT DAY!!

another month, another blog...

well, march. you're here already? nice to have you back, old friend.
i am quite fond of this month. not only does it hold the festive occasion that is the anniversary of my birth.. but the weather here changes in march. so glad the cold weather is upon us.
over the heat. HEAR THAT HEAT? im totally over you.
just watch... in a few months when we reach the middle of winter, i'll be praying for a warmer climate. i'm never happy. but at least i can admit it.

been catching up with my little sister. the one that went to vanuatu. i missed her so much. not even funny. she is the person i like to hang out with most. i have more fun and inside jokes with her then anyone else. oh, and i got cute arse presents from her trip too. :)

got my tickets to sound relief today! im going with 2 girlfriends, laura and liz. they are awesome chicks and we are gonna have a flippin BLAST! i have to admit though, im only going to see Kings of Leon. when i heard they were playing this show... i HAD to get tickets! i missed their concert so this is the next best thing... aside from stalking them while they are in the country... hmm..
so yeah, i paid $75 to watch them play 4 songs. WORTH IT... hee hee. the other girls know who else is playing and they are looking forward to seeing them... so it should be a good day.

sorry, im pretty high on the 2 bottles of red bull i have consumed in the last 3 hours... so i might go do something productive with all this energy...

my dad

is feeling better. still not great, but better.
he had to have a vein replacement surgery on his left leg. the doctors took one from his arm and put it in his leg, but it didnt take properly so they had to go in again and replace it with a synthetic one.
i got a phone call at work about him going in for the operation and had to leave early.
man, it scared the crap out of me.
im not that close to my dad really. my parents divorced when i was 3. i lived with my mum and sisters, my brother stayed with dad. we went out and stayed with him on weeekends and some of the holidays... but in a sad way he is more like a close uncle to me then a father.
but when something like this happens... it just makes you rethink everything.
i have to spend more time with him... cause one day i will regret not getting to know him better.

other news.
my sister gets back from Qld tonight and my other sister gets back from Vanuatu on saturday. yay! i have missed them.
my brother-in-law fixed my car this morning. also yay! there was a problem with the battery and the spark plugs... i have no idea what... but im guessing its something not good. hence the car not starting. its funny, just the other day i was talking about buying a new car... is this a sign...?
tomorrow is thursday. my longest working day of the week. 9 hours. gross. but i get to work with my friend dani. i love working with her. we just gas-bag all day and the time just flies!
i started reading twilight the other day. love.the.book! i already like it better then the movie.

my saturday

i stayed at my mums house last night cause i was driving with her to the airport to take my sister and her boyfriend up there. they are going to vanuatu for a week.
lucky kids.
so yeah, stayed at mums cause i had to be awake at 3 to leave at 3:30am... NOT FUN.
i didnt even go to bed till just after midnight. so once we dropped them off and saw them leave we went back home and i had a nap for 3 hours... it was beautiful. :)

up at melbourne airport it was surprisingly busy for that time of morning. i was still pretty sleepy so while they were checking in their bags and my mum went for coffee i just sat and people watched. that's not creepy is it? i got a few glares off people that thought i was just being rude and staring at them... but at 4am.. i didnt care.

im back at my other sisters now. the one im house sitting for. just having a lazy saturday cause later tonight i'm going to my OTHER sisters house to babysit my nehpews. she and her fiance have two boys under the age of 6 so they dont get out together much. so im giving them a well deserved night off so they can go on a date and do normal couple things...

man, i just realised. 3 favours for 3 sisters... im a pretty good sister!

it has been saturday here for about 30 minutes, so technically its v-day..
i hope everyone has someone they can spend the day with.

but until then... i will be spending the night with my single girlfriends and the day my sister and my nephews.

i am blown away by the generosity of the australian people.
$37.2 million has already been raised to give to those people that have lost everything to help rebuild their lives.
and that number is constantly rising.
but sadly, the death toll has risen too.
181 people...

have you heard about the bush fires in victoria, australia?
these fires are blazing about 2 hours away from me.
my family and i are safe for now. but many aren't. the fires are still burning, causing death and destruction.
the death toll is devastating. as of right now, it stands at 131. but the victorian fire chief is saying it could well raise to above 230 people.
families all over the state have lost everything. everything. can you imagine what that is like?
my bff amy, went to uni with a girl, lea, who lives in kinglake with her parents. kinglake has been flattened by these fires. it is one of the worst affected towns. luckily their home wasn't damaged too badly. but the one across the road... everything is gone. they have been completely wiped out.
540 homes are gone along with over 40 peoples lives. this is in kinglake alone..
entire towns, like kinglake, have been declared as crime scenes. police and fire fighters are hoping to find some evidence to help find the people responsible.
the news is saying that the police believe that teenagers, as young as 15, are to blame for starting some of the fires currently burning through victoria. honestly, how dumb can you be to do something like this? if caught, they will be charged as mass murders.
it sure is causing debate everywhere. people are calling for the death penalty, life in prison, making these people see the bodies of those that have passed away and the towns they have destroyed in the hopes that the images will haunt them for the rest of their lives... people just want justice.
my thoughts are with every person affected by these fires.
my friend dani and i are going to donate blood because they need soon much of it right now. it's the least we can do to help.

i went to the beach but left early because it was way too windy down there.. then i went to the pool with my sister and her boyfriend. it was packed. there were kids and old men in speedos everywhere.. gross. but i had an awesome time anyway. :)

i babysat my 2 nephews tonight. they are gems.
we played uno, connect 4 and bunny hop for ages. it was great. i love those kids but they can be sore losers... hee hee

one more day then back to work.
weekends go too quick. maybe it's time i took another holiday...

so my computer died the other day.. sad i know.
i don't know if it was the heat or something else.. whatever it was, it didn't like it. It had to go to the doctor but baby is back now, and mumma sure glad it is. :)

i know earlier i complained about the weather. How is was summer but the summer weather was nowhere to be seen... well, melbourne has just survived it's most extreme heat wave... EVER.
everyday this week has been over 40 degrees (104 f). NEVER going below 30 (86 f). not even at night time. crazy right!?
thursday, geelong had it's hottest day on record, 45.3 (113.5 f). and this record dates back to 1885. i worked through that heat. and honestly am quite proud of myself for not passing out from heat exhaustion... because our work a/c isn't working... grr.
so i have been living at the beach. thursday night i was there with friends till midnight. and at that time it was still warm and beautiful.
im taking my nephews down there to go boogie boarding tomorrow. should be a blast. im not very good, so maybe they can teach me a thing or two.

was my friends 18th yesterday. she is finally of legal drinking age. so to celebrate, some girlfriends and i and taking her out to (legally) drink! yay!

For the past couple of years my father has been reminding me that I am an Australian citizen, not an American.
Since 2006 I have been swept up in Obama mania.
I have watched debates.
Read interviews.
Read his books.
Listened to his ideas and hopes for the future. Not just for his country, but for the world.
We are also totally friends on MySpace...

As a citizen of the world, I am proud that a man with such wonderful visions for every man, woman and child has been elected to the position of President of the most influential country on the planet.

I woke up this morning at 3am to watch the live televised coverage of the inauguration.
It was amazing and worth how tired I am today. The amount of people that were there to see this monumental occasion was astonishing. Approx 2 million I heard at one point and billions watching in their homes. (and I hear it was like 0 degrees....)
These people were there witness something that many people never thought would happen in their lifetime.
I wish I could have been there. The atmosphere must have been electric. Maybe if President Obama runs again in 2012, I'll make the trip across the Pacific.

He has a lot of work to do, but I believe he, along with Vice President Biden, and the rest of his staff, can do it. He know what he is up against, and he knows Americas (and the worlds) problems wont be solved overnight. But he has faith that he can do it.

well that's not true. i read the first 2 chapters thursday night.

it was awesome.

my only gripe with the book is the excessive use of the word "dude" and the phrase "for serious"...

i went and saw twilight again last night!!!
the cinema was busy again but not as bad as last time..
and i think i enjoyed the movie more the second time around.

but the girl, kristen stewart, kind of bothers me. i cant quite put my finger on it... something about her annoys me.
and i nearly shed a tear during the movie. the scene where edward and bella are sitting at the piano together and he is playing... is magical!

some things that happened in my world today.

- i woke up early to go for a run before work, but couldn't be bothered dragging my arse out of bed. so i laid there for 45 minutes and listened to folie a deux.. good album, btw. the (shipped) gold standard might be my favourite.
- i worked 7 hours. we weren't busy so the day dragged out and it felt like i worked 17 hours.
- my friend was telling me about this guy she met on the weekend. he seems nice enough. but she just got out of a 5 year relationship to a guy she was engaged to and cheated on her. if this new guys hurts her... there will be hell to pay. but if he makes her happy. then great. :)
- i went to my guy friends house for tea tonight. he made spaghetti. it was delicious.
- i watched the cricket at work today when it was quiet. and i honestly think my 5 year old nephew could do better then matthew hayden. no disrespect, but i think it might be time to hang up the baggy green, mate.
- i lied to my best friends parents about where she was staying tonight... with a boy. tisk tisk.

so im tired tonight that i couldn't be bothered putting thought and effort into this post.

Date night...

I actually went and saw 2 movies last night. Twilight and 20 minutes after that had finished, we saw Yes Man.
And although I LOVE Jim Carrey, and think he is one of the FUNNIEST men alive...
Twilight was the better of the two.
So yes, I finally saw it. I went with my sister and although the cinema was packed and I couldn't get comfy and put my feet up on the seat in front of me, I still enjoyed it.
I didn't get around to reading the book. I wasn't sure if I should because I've heard mixed things about the movie in comparison. But, now that I've seen the movie and know that I like it, I'll read it.
Now, about Robert Pattinson.
Although I can agree that he's not ugly, and that some girls might see him as a "total dreamboat" (I overheard one girl call him this when we were coming out of the cinema...)... He doesn't really do anything for me.
I think the most attractive thing about him is the character he plays and hes love for Bella. and how intense and passionate that love is.
I want love like that.
It sucks that it only happens in the movies...

I also got a kick out of hearing Muse during the baseball scene... AWESOME!

Welcome, everyone to 2009!

Last night was UNBELIEVABLE!

My friends and I got to Melbourne at 7.30pm. Went straight to Crown Casino where I put $10 in a pokie machine and won $189 back. Not bad, eh!?

From there we went to Crowns 3^rd story balcony and watched the 9:15pm fireworks, went for a walk around the city, made friends with girls in the loooooooong bathroom lines and then went to the banks of the Yarra to watch the midnight fireworks…

I LOVE FIREWORKS! And they didn’t disappoint me.

I got home at 4:00am and fell straight asleep. Woke up this morning at my friend Amy’s house with no headache, no sick feelings and wonderful memories.

The only bad thing about the night was I dropped my camera around 3:00am when I was trying to take a photo… Luckily I didn’t lose any of my photos from the night.

My birthday is in March. I will just wait till then and ask for a new one…
