my dad

is feeling better. still not great, but better.
he had to have a vein replacement surgery on his left leg. the doctors took one from his arm and put it in his leg, but it didnt take properly so they had to go in again and replace it with a synthetic one.
i got a phone call at work about him going in for the operation and had to leave early.
man, it scared the crap out of me.
im not that close to my dad really. my parents divorced when i was 3. i lived with my mum and sisters, my brother stayed with dad. we went out and stayed with him on weeekends and some of the holidays... but in a sad way he is more like a close uncle to me then a father.
but when something like this happens... it just makes you rethink everything.
i have to spend more time with him... cause one day i will regret not getting to know him better.

other news.
my sister gets back from Qld tonight and my other sister gets back from Vanuatu on saturday. yay! i have missed them.
my brother-in-law fixed my car this morning. also yay! there was a problem with the battery and the spark plugs... i have no idea what... but im guessing its something not good. hence the car not starting. its funny, just the other day i was talking about buying a new car... is this a sign...?
tomorrow is thursday. my longest working day of the week. 9 hours. gross. but i get to work with my friend dani. i love working with her. we just gas-bag all day and the time just flies!
i started reading twilight the other day. love.the.book! i already like it better then the movie.

my saturday

i stayed at my mums house last night cause i was driving with her to the airport to take my sister and her boyfriend up there. they are going to vanuatu for a week.
lucky kids.
so yeah, stayed at mums cause i had to be awake at 3 to leave at 3:30am... NOT FUN.
i didnt even go to bed till just after midnight. so once we dropped them off and saw them leave we went back home and i had a nap for 3 hours... it was beautiful. :)

up at melbourne airport it was surprisingly busy for that time of morning. i was still pretty sleepy so while they were checking in their bags and my mum went for coffee i just sat and people watched. that's not creepy is it? i got a few glares off people that thought i was just being rude and staring at them... but at 4am.. i didnt care.

im back at my other sisters now. the one im house sitting for. just having a lazy saturday cause later tonight i'm going to my OTHER sisters house to babysit my nehpews. she and her fiance have two boys under the age of 6 so they dont get out together much. so im giving them a well deserved night off so they can go on a date and do normal couple things...

man, i just realised. 3 favours for 3 sisters... im a pretty good sister!

im housesitting this week.
my sister and her boyfriend are in Qld for the next week or so, so im holding down the fort until they get back. im having a blast. i still live with mummy so its nice to have some time away...
but they have a wicked movie collection. granted some of them are doozies...(like every godfather and star wars movie...yuck.) but i found Taken and Seven Pounds and watched them after work today.

i think i first saw this movie when i was about 7. and by now i must have seen it about 1000 times. (it creeped me out a bit when i was little though...)

it has been saturday here for about 30 minutes, so technically its v-day..
i hope everyone has someone they can spend the day with.
im not really caught up with the whole gift giving tradition of the day. (you know, cards, roses, chocolates...)
maybe when i have a guy to share it with i will be...
but until then... i will be spending the night with my single girlfriends and the day my sister and my nephews.
a little birdie told me that a homemade card is coming my way..! (i will act surprised.)

i am blown away by the generosity of the australian people.
$37.2 million has already been raised to give to those people that have lost everything to help rebuild their lives.
and that number is constantly rising.
but sadly, the death toll has risen too.
181 people...

this is happening...

... and my heart is breaking.

have you heard about the bush fires in victoria, australia?
these fires are blazing about 2 hours away from me.
my family and i are safe for now. but many aren't. the fires are still burning, causing death and destruction.
the death toll is devastating. as of right now, it stands at 131. but the victorian fire chief is saying it could well raise to above 230 people.
families all over the state have lost everything. everything. can you imagine what that is like?
my bff amy, went to uni with a girl, lea, who lives in kinglake with her parents. kinglake has been flattened by these fires. it is one of the worst affected towns. luckily their home wasn't damaged too badly. but the one across the road... everything is gone. they have been completely wiped out.
540 homes are gone along with over 40 peoples lives. this is in kinglake alone..
entire towns, like kinglake, have been declared as crime scenes. police and fire fighters are hoping to find some evidence to help find the people responsible.
the news is saying that the police believe that teenagers, as young as 15, are to blame for starting some of the fires currently burning through victoria. honestly, how dumb can you be to do something like this? if caught, they will be charged as mass murders.
it sure is causing debate everywhere. people are calling for the death penalty, life in prison, making these people see the bodies of those that have passed away and the towns they have destroyed in the hopes that the images will haunt them for the rest of their lives... people just want justice.
my thoughts are with every person affected by these fires.
my friend dani and i are going to donate blood because they need soon much of it right now. it's the least we can do to help.

was canceled because of the heat...
serious?!
it's a summer sport...! they have to expect to play it in summer weather. right!?
so i didn't get to catch up with my girlfriends. bummer.
i went to the beach but left early because it was way too windy down there.. then i went to the pool with my sister and her boyfriend. it was packed. there were kids and old men in speedos everywhere.. gross. but i had an awesome time anyway. :)

i babysat my 2 nephews tonight. they are gems.
we played uno, connect 4 and bunny hop for ages. it was great. i love those kids but they can be sore losers... hee hee

one more day then back to work.
weekends go too quick. maybe it's time i took another holiday...
hmm, maybe.

just the local game to watch some friends play and spend some times with the wags. (wife's and girlfriends.)
but... it's going to be hot today. in the early 40's their predicting. so.. shirts off boys...? please...? that would certainly make hours of cricket more enjoyable... :)
